for LGBTQIA+ and POC Individuals

Therapist
Carlette Marie Quinto

(she/her)

Hi, I’m Carlette (LMSW). I primarily work with Black Indigenous People of Color and LGBTQIA+ communities particularly those wanting to explore their relationship with food, substance use, and/or are in recovery from an eating disorders and/or  substance use.

Have you felt the frustration or hurt of not having your struggles and identity fully acknowledged or respected? If you're looking for someone who will explore the unique challenges you face, you've come to the right place.

I have experience working with adults who were former competitive child athletes, specifically dancers, figure skaters, and gymnasts.

I believe therapy should be collaborative and individualized. Together, we can explore how your feelings and experiences, along with systems of oppression, manifest in your body. I strive to engage with anti-oppressive social work practices with a racial justice and gender equity lens as well as a Narrative Therapy approach and a spiritual lens.

I offer virtual therapy sessions with anyone in the state of New York. At this time, I am not in-network with any insurance.

My Specialty Areas

  • Eating Disorder & Substance Use Recovery: My expertise includes supporting clients manage the complexities of co-occurring disorders with a compassionate and integrated approach.

  • Queer and Trans Adolescents and Adults: I provide affirming and supportive therapy tailored to the unique experiences and challenges faced by queer and trans folks.

  • First Generation Black, Indigenous, People of Color: I support first-generation BIPOC individuals as they navigate the intersection of cultural expectations and their own identities.

What Therapy With Me Is Like

In therapy I primarily lean on anti-oppressive practices, mindfulness, and curiosity….  I believe that the therapeutic relationship itself is a vital source of trust, collaboration, and commitment. Through our sessions, my goal is to help you feel heard, understood, and comfortable being your true self both in therapy and in your everyday life. We’ll work together to identify the needs you are trying to meet with your current coping mechanisms and explore healthier, more fulfilling ways to meet them.

Results From Specialized Therapy

Many of my clients experience a deeper sense of self-awareness, understanding how their past affects today, and emotional resilience- helping them navigate both traumatic events and co-occurring disorders more effectively.

As we explore and address the underlying needs driving your coping mechanisms, you may find that your reliance on these behaviors diminishes, replaced by change and  healthier strategies.

Improved relationships with yourself and others often emerge as trust and connection are rebuilt. Ultimately, our therapy sessions help you gain a greater sense of purpose and belonging, allowing you to feel more comfortable being your true self both in and out of therapy.
